Name-checking Bickle is certainly an interesting notion. In \u201cTaxi Driver,\u201d Bickle is a loner that is so detached from societal norms that he takes a young woman he\u2019s trying to court to a hardcore porno film on their first date and is shocked when she\u2019s horrified by the graphic sex scenes on screen. Bickle eventually spirals into a violent path that sees him attempt to rescue a child sex worker (<strong>Jodie Foster<\/strong>) he befriends from a dangerous pimp played by <strong>Harvey Keitel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>How far the comparison goes is a little unknown at the moment. However, this \u201cTaxi Driver\u201d influence isn\u2019t that crazy as the filmmaker has been talking up another 1970s revenge pic \u201c<strong>Rolling Thunder<\/strong>\u201d (released in 1977) as well lately. A benchmark movie for Tarantino that he\u2019s previously mused about remaking and screened \u201cRolling Thunder\u201d at the recent <strong>Cannes Film Festival<\/strong>. Both of these seminal films for Tarantino were penned by <strong>Paul Schrader<\/strong> (\u201c<strong>The Card Counter<\/strong>\u201c) and feature extremely violent endings with lead characters, which could be telegraphing what happens in \u201cThe Movie Critic.\u201d Although, he\u2019s clarified it won\u2019t be a \u201crevenge pic\u201d and Tarantino could be simply angling to channel a gritty Schrader story.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re still waiting on key aspects for \u201cThe Movie Critic,\u201d beyond the 1970s setting and profession of the protagonist, such as a full plot synopsis and what lineup of actors Tarantino is going to assemble for the highly-anticipated film.
