\n\tJames Corden<\/a> is getting honest about his post-Late Late Show<\/em> steps, admitting to some uncertainty about his future and revealing hopes to return to the theater.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s loads of things I\u2019d love to do, but they\u2019re very reliant on people wanting me to do them,\u201d Corden said at a PaleyFest<\/a> event in Los Angeles on Sunday, where he took part in a panel alongside Late Late Show<\/em> executive producers Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe, in a conversation that was moderated by Bryan Cranston<\/a>. He added, \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be really important to take a breath and take a minute\u201d to decompress from the last eight years, and with plans for his family to move back to England this summer.<\/p>\n

\n\tCranston asked if Corden would like to return to the theater at some point \u2014 he won a Tony in 2012 for his performance in One Man, Two Guvnors<\/em> \u2014 as the host professed, \u201cIt couldn\u2019t feel more urgent within me to leave to do that. I will be really, really upset with myself if, in the next year or year and a half or so, I don\u2019t go do another play or revisit a play I\u2019ve already done. I would give anything to go back and do a show again, I\u2019d give absolutely anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI haven\u2019t felt this scared since I decided to take the show, to move here,\u201d Corden said of his future. \u201cI haven\u2019t felt on such unstable ground,\u201d but acknowledged \u201cI have to embrace that fear.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen Cranston expressed surprise at his anxiety, Corden explained, \u201cI\u2019m just aware that what I\u2019m trying to do isn\u2019t the road that\u2019s often traveled, to go from like National Theatre, writing a TV show on the BBC, Broadway, host of a late-night talk show, shooting stuff in the middle of that, stopping the late-night talk show and then going, \u2018Oh, I\u2019d like to do another play now.\u2019 It just isn\u2019t the road that\u2019s been traveled to my knowledge, so with that comes a huge amount of fear. It\u2019s terrifying, it\u2019s absolutely terrifying.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Late Late Show<\/em> is now in its final month, with its last episode scheduled to air on CBS on April 27. Corden said they have 12 episodes left to do, and they will likely be the biggest shows they\u2019ve ever done. That will include three \u201cCarpool Karaoke\u201d sessions and one of his famous \u201cCrosswalk the Musical\u201d segments, as well as the teased Lion King<\/em> musical performance with Corden as Timon and Tom Cruise as Pumbaa. Corden will also participate in a \u201cTake a Break\u201d segment featuring the Kardashian family.<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring the 90-minute panel, the trio reflected on their favorite moments throughout the show\u2019s eight years and played a live version of their game \u201cSpill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts\u201d on stage. Corden also revealed one of their craziest ideas that never came to be, which included Jennifer Lopez living with him in a glass box suspended over Sunset Boulevard for an entire day in promotion of her 2022 Netflix documentary Halftime<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tCorden admitted it \u201cfeels incredibly strange\u201d to be ending the show, and \u201cto walk away from something you love so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s not right because you\u2019re having such a great time, I get to go to work with all of my best friends\u2026but then at the same time I\u2019m so certain it\u2019s the right thing to do,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m so absolutely certain that we did everything we wanted to do and I think it\u2019s really important to have things end.\u201d And of his hopes for the finale, he added he wants \u201cto go out with everything we made the show about: joy, love, gratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n
