Christian Bale hasn\u2019t shut the door completely on playing Bruce Wayne\/Batman for a fourth time on the big screen. There\u2019s just one stipulation: Christopher Nolan must direct. The Oscar-winning actor recently told ScreenRant that he\u2019d put on the Dark Knight\u2019s cape once more as long as Nolan\u2019s back in the director\u2019s chair. Nolan directed Bale in three Batman movies, with \u201cThe Dark Knight\u201d and \u201cThe Dark Knight Rises\u201d both grossing over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo. No one\u2019s ever mentioned it to me. No one\u2019s brought it up,\u201d Bale said when asked about reprising Batman. \u201cOccasionally people say to me, \u2018Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.\u201d And I\u2019m like, \u2018That\u2019s news to me. No one\u2019s ever said that.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a pact with Chris Nolan,\u201d Bale added. \u201cWe said, \u2018Hey, look. Let\u2019s make three films, if we\u2019re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let\u2019s walk away. Let\u2019s not linger too long.\u2019 In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, \u2018You know what, I\u2019ve got another story to tell.\u2019 And if he wished to tell that story with me, I\u2019d be in.\u201d<\/p>\n

Together, Nolan and Bale redefined the comic book movie with their grounded approach to the genre in \u201cBatman Begins.\u201d With the 2008 sequel \u201cThe Dark Knight,\u201d the duo delivered what many still regard as the greatest superhero movie ever made. Since Bale finished playing Batman, both Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson have taken on the role. The latter earned acclaim earlier this year for \u201cThe Batman,\u201d which grossed $770 million worldwide (far more than the $373 million of Bale\u2019s launcher \u201cBatman Begins\u201d).<\/p>\n

\u201cI still haven\u2019t seen it. I will see it,\u201d Bale recently told Variety<\/em><\/a> about \u201cThe Batman.\u201d \u201cListen, mate, it\u2019s amazing how few films I see. Every director I work with, I\u2019ve seen a couple of their films and they\u2019re always looking at me going, \u2018Are you kidding?\u2019 I like to really savor films and I don\u2019t watch too many. But I will, I certainly will.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bale added, \u201cRobert is an absolutely wonderful actor. We bumped into each other, talked a little bit about it ahead of time, and I heard wonderful things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next up for Bale is a return to comic book movies thanks to his villain role as Gorr the God Butcher in \u201cThor: Love and Thunder,\u201d opening nationwide July 8.<\/p>\n
